Salmon features in healthy eating class

Following a successful appearance at the Invergordon Academy ‘Highland Games’ event in May, the Skretting team from the Invergordon fish feed plant was asked to contribute a class at the academy on healthy eating.

Liane Macdonald, Sales Office at Invergordon, says “As a follow up to the Highland Games we were invited to give a presentation on salmon and healthy eating at the school. The Home Economics teachers are keen to encourage healthy lifestyles. We supplied fresh and smoked salmon, from our customer Wester Ross Fisheries. Pupils were invited to prepare a healthy packed lunch with salmon as one of the ingredients. Options included wraps and pasta dishes. We also distributed a booklet with delicious salmon recipes.”

The Invergordon Academy runs the Highland Games event to introduce final year pupils from local primary schools to the academy they will move to in August. This year Skretting offered a taste of salmon as one of ten activities. Skretting’s presence at the games was a result of the fire in a fishmeal silo. “The fire caused something of a stink, literally, and as a near neighbour the academy suffered. In discussions on how we could make up for the discomfort we established a good relationship with the academy.”
